Make Handwashing Fun!

I don’t know about you, but it’s a chore to get my 3-year-old to wash her hands thoroughly. She puts the soap on her hands and then immediately rinses them off. What can I do? Well, I came across this fun product that could help. What do you think?

Color Changing Hand Soaps

Itzazu’s® exclusive formula provides an interactive hand washing method with color filled “Chase the Bead”™ technology. As the beads break, it creates a color change when hand washing is done properly. Beads immediately start to break as you start washing and color intensifies as hand washing continues and more beads are popped. When the beads are gone, color change is complete and hand washing is done.

Assist your child by showing them the proper way to use Itzazu® Color Changing Hand Soap:
1. Wet hands = the wetter the better!
2. Apply the soap and start lathering showing your child how to chase the beads and pop them to create a “paint the hands” technique or game.
3. Show them how to wash the back of hands as well as in between fingers etc, continually chasing down and popping the beads.
4. Then let them follow your example. Instructing them as they go – “Great job!” – keep chasing and popping the beads – “Wow, look at the color!”

10 ways to start 2010 right

By Marc Sedwitz, M.D., Scripps Memorial Hospital La JollaCarmel Valley News

We’re about to embark on a bright new decade, so why not start it off right by incorporating a few new healthy habits into your life? There’s no need to revamp your entire diet and lifestyle to improve your health — even small actions can pay off in a big boost to your health. Check out the ideas below and try the ones that sound right for you.

1) Get your full eight hours.
2) Rise and shine — and eat.
From banishing cold and flu germs to preventing foodborne illnesses, frequent hand-washing is one of the smartest preventive habits you can adopt. Wash your hands with warm water and soap before handling food, eating, or touching your face , and after using the bathroom or coming into contact with potentially contaminated objects such as doorknobs, toys and menus. Be sure to clean the entire surface of your palms and the tops of your hands, as well as under your nails. A thorough hand-washing should take about 20 seconds.
4) Know your family health history.
5) Eat mindfully.
6) Add variety to your diet.
7) Volunteer.
Do you live in Nashville? Check out the  Nashville Rescue Mission.
8) Maintain strong family and social networks.
9) Take a time out.
10) Drink more water.

Giving Back: Nashville Rescue Mission

I’m excited to announce that in January and February, I’ll be donating 10% from the sale of all “Clean Hand Healthy Baby” signs to the Nashville Rescue Mission.

“I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” – Matthew 25:40

Nashville Rescue Mission: Mission Statement
Following God’s command to love our neighbor as ourselves, the Nashville Rescue Mission seeks to help the hurting of Middle Tennessee by offering food, clothing and shelter to the homeless and recovery programs to those enslaved in life degrading problems. Our goal is to help people know the saving grace of Jesus, and through Him, gain wisdom for living, find fulfillment in life and become a positive part of their community.

Support In Action
It only costs $2.26 to provide a meal to a homeless man, women or child. And that meal has the power to change a life! A person shows up at the Nashville Rescue Mission hungry and searching for a hot nutritious meal, and what they find is the life God had in mind for them in the first place. Once inside our facility, information is presented on the Mission’s life-recovery programs and a path that ultimately leads to a way off the streets. By providing a hot meal for someone in need, your support in action results in another life restored and produces another contributing member of our community.
